Polycarbonate
- Similar to acrylic in appearance, polycarbonate is
both
dishwasher safe and microwave-safe. This plastic is
extremely strong, durable, and possesses superior impact
resistance. Polycarbonate is shatterproof and will
maintain its appearance through repeated use and
washing.
Acrylic
- A molded plastic that
is a good substitute or glass because of its clarity and
transparency. Acrylic resists both scratching and
breakage; its color is also sunlight resistant.
Dishwasher rinsing agents, over time, can cause
cracking. Although acrylic is top-rack dishwasher safe,
hand washing of acrylic tableware is recommended for
maintaining the best appearance.
Melamine - This plastic has good heat and scratch
resistance. Its heat resistance means it is
dishwasher-safe. However, it is not recommended for use
in microwave ovens. Melamine is difficult to mold, and
as such it is used for plates, bowls and other simple
shapes.
